Question 300 head change

hello ford truckers i got a ? i was told a 240 head will fit on my 300, if it does what will be the benifits? will this caose a problem with my dual exhaust manifolds? moter is stock but want to put 4bbl. carb&manifold

300 head change

Everything on your 300 will bolt up to a 240 head. The exhaust bolt pattern is also the same. The 240 head has a smaller combustion chamber so your compression ratio will go up some.

if i put a 240 head on will i need to rebuild the bottem end for strength

300 head change

A 240 head will fit just fine, but ANY perfomance mod should be done on a fresh engine. Modding an old engine will just accelerate wear. If it already burns oil, pull the engine and rebuild it, and do your mods then.

no the moter dont smoke its got 103k on it and is still super strong i only want to do this once

so will a basic ring and bearing work? also i was thinking about a new cam but im not sure on how to pick one i dont want to over rap the moter but i want more ponies icant spend to much money the wife already thinks its a money pit my friend says that a header will be a waste because i have dual exhaust manifolds, and a purple horny?? is it a good idea to build a torqy moter with low rpm. and put highway type gears behind it?

What year is the truck? If it's Post a 87 EFI unit, the 240 head won't do you any good, the EFI head has the same size chambers as the 240 one.

no its a 84 four speed dont know the trans ratio but the rear is a 4.11
