The "swerve" light is probably the light for the AdvanceTrac stability control. Since your Explorer has AdvanceTrac it has a 4 channel ABS system and one ABS sensor and tone ring for each wheel. Yes, the cause of the indicators coming on could be due to a cracked tone ring. It could also be a faulty sensor, a problem with the ABS hydraulic pump, the ABS module, etc. The way to tell what component has identified a fault is to use a professional diagnostic tool to pull the diagnostics from the ABS and/or stability control modules. There is also now a consumer-grade ABS diagnostic tool that can pull the diagnostic codes from the ABS computer but for a one-time use probably costs more than having the ABS codes pulled by a shop.

A bad ABS sensor is typically not an expensive or difficult fix, unless on a GM vehicle where the sensor is built in to the wheel bearing assembly. I don't think Ford has gone that route yet. A cracked tone ring though often involves removing a halfshaft and either very carefully installing a new tone ring or replacing the halfshaft with a new or rebuilt unit. If the problem is with a control module the price will also be high.
