Whats a good oil to use on a 6.0 that you can get at the auto parts store.I now there are a lot of fancy oils out their but i don't want to order it or drive miles to find it.Thanks for the info.
There are alot of answers to that question and you will get several so I will give you my .02
I run Rotella T6 5w40 full synthetic in my truck. Its easy to find at Walmart, or Advance Auto, its not that expensive, 20.00 for a gallon.
Some people use Valvoline Premium Blue, some use Mobil 1 Diesel, some use Scaffers, and the list goes on.
I think the most important thing to remeber is that even though you put a synthetic in,if thats the way you go, you need to stick to the 5k oil change intervals as the 6.0 shears oil quickly. Also rember to use MC, Racor, or IH filters in these engine or you will be asking for trouble.
I second what sarge said. And for a short time their is a rebate you can get on Rotella T6. If you buy at least three 1 gallon jugs (you actually need 4 gallons to do an oil change) you will get $20 back. T6 is $19 a gallon at Walmart. Here is a link to get the rebate form...........
Ditto on the Rotella, either dino or synthetic. But don't be afraid to try different brands and see what your truck likes. Believe it or not, on these engines the oil can actually affect how the engine sounds and performs, because the injectors are fired with high pressure motor oil.
But most importantly, whatever oil you choose, make sure it is an API rated CJ-4 oil. If it is, it will be shown prominently on the bottle.
Will any CJ-4 diesel oil be OK?
Up here in CANADA!- syn costs big bucks and Wally world sells their house brand CJ-4 for $47 for 20 litres.
Rotella DINO is $80; the cheap CJ-4 syn is $200.
As I only drive 8-10k a year I think this oil changed 2x a year should be good.
Anyone think otherwise?

It looks like Quaker state makes wal-mart oil. it is still scarry with all of the cheap junk at that store ( that being said I still find myself there twice a month) https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...r-walmart.html

I'm in Northern Alberta and found that UFA carries Chevron Delo 400LE 5w40 syn. oil it is CJ-4 rated and only $21 a jug.
If you have one close by you should check them out. I also wait for there spring or fall sale and buy a couple cases. then it is only $18-$19 a jug.

No UFA around here......I'll poke around and see if I can find syn for that cheap. Do you get oil leaks? I've already got a small leak and am concerned that the syn will increase it.
Cold Lake gets much, much colder than me - just outside Victoria BC but even down around freezing she gets pretty loud and takes a few seconds to smooth out on my 10/30.
If I can get it down around $75 for the 16 quarts I'll see what it sounds like.
Do you know if Ford factory filled with syn?
I have used Genuine Motorcraft Powerstroke Diesel Motor Oil in all of the PSD's I have owned and have never had a oil related failure. You can buy it at Walmart for $12.00 per 5 qt jug.
