Several comments.

1) Would it work? Yes... but in what manner? As an addon to the stock cooler - Yes. As a replacement for teh stock cooler - can't say for sure because there are no heat transfer specs, but I suspect not.

2) Too big? Only if it creates so much back pressure that you can;t get enough fluid to make the complete circuit back to the tranny, and that is unlikely given the apparent size of the tubes.

3) Being a tubed cooler, your heat transfer efficiency will not be as good as either the 7.3 stocker or the upgrade to a 6.0 tranny cooler.

4) Every 10 degF reduction in fluid temperature doubles the remaining life of your fluid. Every 20 degF reduction in fluid temperature doubles the remaining life of your tranny.

Absolutely best options are as follows, in order of largest to smallest impact.

A. Add a 6.0 tranny cooler in line with your existing stocker.
B. Add the largest TruCool cooler to your existing system (or one from a V10 which is exactly the same).
c. Replace your existing 7.3 cooler with one from a 6.0
D. Replace your existing 7.3 cooler with either a V10 or the big TruCool cooler.
E. Add another 7.3 cooler to your existing 7.3 cooler.

I didn't recommend combining a Trucool/V10 cooler with one from the 6.0 because I suspect that you might start seeing too much backpressure... unless you ran them in parallel, perhaps.

Costs... a used 6.0 cooler can often be found for less than $200, and sometimes for as little as $100. A NEW 6.0 cooler can be found for $200-$300 on eBay. The TruCool/V10 cooler can be had, brand new, for about $150.

Hope this helps.

Great info Pete. I'm no expert, but can back up Pete's recommendation on the Trucool part. This is the first summer towing with the cooler in my signature. Texas panhandle, Oklahoma, and SE Colorado, 100F ambient, climbing hills, towing approx. 12,500 lbs and the temp guage has yet to see anything above 165F! I couldn't be happier. Good luck.

PS, I added mine in series with the stock cooler.

Have you actually seen anyone run the 6.0 cooler and the stock cooler? I'm not sure I would think that would be best, or easy plumbing.

6.0 cooler in line with the stock 7.3 cooler? I was under the impression the 6.0 cooler was more than enough for anything our trucks could pull. Has anyone on the forum done the 6.0 in line with the stocker?

Forgive me, guys. It was late last night. Even though the combination would provide an "ultimate" level of cooling, you're both right about the 6.0 cooler being installed as a single unit replacement for the 7.3 or TruCool/V10 units.
