haha maybe i just have bad luck. the cable stills comes out of place im working up a gauge that i can run from the tranny to the inside of the cab so i can monitor my tv pressure. it pulls off in second gear and i dont understand where im loosing power i mean sure its a fairly heavy truck but it wont even wheel hop. ive tuned the motor and timing to perfection!
windsor-f150, something is wrong if your linkage doesn't stay in place. I beefed up my 302 and ran a 4V carburetor from Holley and then switched to an Autolite 4100 without any linkage or other transmission problems in the last 4 years. The only issue with the Holley (or Edelbrock) is that the throttle arm is not symmetrical, so you absolutely need to get the "throttle valve corrector plate" or the AOD WILL get pulled out of adjustment every time you give it full throttle!
Although more heavy duty in stock form, C6 transmission will rob more power from your 351 than an AOD will. I agree with you to NOT drive the vehicle if the throttle valve cable is not adjusted correctly. This is a critical adjustment that is best done by a transmission professional. I would also recommend a transmission cooler, as heat is what kills automatic transmissions. I found an OEM Ford AOD transmssion cooler and the cooler lines at a local junkyard for only $25.
There is a member in the 1987 - 1996 forums named Conanski who ran an AOD behind his highly modified 351W for over eight years without any problems at all, and he says he was not easy on it and he never complained that it "robbed" power from his 351.
will do! im anxious myself. i put exhuast on my truck today after running open headers and my truck went from sounding bad as hell to a truck that sounds stock with a little cam to it. i hate it! flowmasters 40 series suck! i want that rumble back!
well not for just driving around. but my truck sounds like a circle track racer going down the road wide open haha. but i have found my problem. this morning i made up a guage with a few fittings high pressure hose and a simple water pressure guage that reads single digit increments 0-35 and when i crank it up it sits on 0 pressure as it sould. but when i put the 5/16 spacer in the linkage to make sure that brings it up to 26-28 it completly pings the guage. and when i cut it off and turn it back on its right back to zero. so i put the spacer on before i turned the engine on and it read dead on at 26. talking to some good friends at the local tranny shop and truns out something inside my valve body is sticking hydralicly . any movement of the cable while the engine is running makes something hang in the tranny and puts full pressure on the V.B.. ordering a new valve body and shift kit tonight. will keep posting to update you on improvments
