'59 AOD install update
1. have to notch a small piece of the trans cover to get header clearance (Thorley headers); and
2. required new flywheel and plate (bolt pattern didn't match up from the C4).
Other than that... work continues!

3. couldn't use the old Lokar kickdown; had to get a new Lokar throttle pressure cable.
Hope this info helps anyone else who is considering doing the same conversion to an AOD. Probably would be on the road with it by now if I didn't have to order additonal parts, or if I knew I would need these parts from the onset of the project. Oh well, patience is my newest virtue!!!

Make sure that your new flexplate is the right imbalance. 302's swapped from 28 oz to 50 oz somewhere around 81. For a WAG, compare size of weight welded on old flexplate to size of weight welded on new AOD flexplate. Your tranny guy should already know this, but I'd hate to see you do this twice...

Think they're on top of it: they had to replace the flexplate and the flywheel. Everytime I talk to them, they reiterate the importance of the proper components and REALLY stress the importance of getting the proper setting for the throttle cable and the pressure plate 9so the AOD doesn't burn up). Plus the fact that the builder of the AOD has built many an AOD for Shahan's Racing (the installers) and together they've installed many AOD's in daily drivers AND in race cars over the years. The builder of my AOD and the people at Shahan's will install it together. FYI, H.L. Shahan and his wife were national champions in the late 60's-early 70's; he built 'um and SHE (yes, she) raced 'um... (check the Internet under H.L. Shahan).
They have been very suscinct about what parts and how this thing gets installed. I am anxious to see it completed and drive it to see the difference. On that, I'll let you (and FTE) know... you can count on it!! Thanks for your input and concern; it's nice to have someone out there looking out for me, especially in this most crucial of tranny swaps.
Talkatcha soon,
Daryl
