This is a past post I found with the same problem I have..however I really did not get a good answer...any suggestions today ?!?!? Thanks so much.
"I have a 2002 7.3 Powerstroke. I can go out and start it up and drive somewere like the store gas station work. If I shut the truck off it will not start again it has to sit for a while before it will start. It turns over sounds like it does its normal thing but it just wont fire up. It take use to take about 30 mins for the truck to start back up now its taking up to a couple hours for the truck to start back up. Any advice on whats wrong and what i gotta do to fix this pesky problem. "
Also..does oil on the edge of replacing thin enough to not "drive" the injectors ? Mine is sitting the driveway and wont start.

It could be a number of things that may cause this.
Your batteries are the first thing to check as you need a certain amount of voltage for it to fire up. I had close to the same issue of not starting and found one of my bat cables was very loose. You should get them load tested.
There could also be an issue with your starter. They are easy to take off and you can get them tested at 'Oreilly or Autozone ect.... When you take the starter off, unhook both batteries, so you will not get an arch from the hot wire on the starter and also use a lot of 'liquid wrench' on the two nuts before you take them off of the starter posts. I twisted the large one right out of the plastic housing.

The consistance of the oil can be a factor in opening your injectors, but, I don't think that this is your problem unless you are really low on oil. In which case the engine will shut down. What I mean by 'way low' is 5 to 8 qts low. You can also check you HPOP (high pressure oil pump) to see if the is enough oil in it. To check this, it is under the plastic cover, forward of the fuel filter. remove the allen on the right hand side and check the level of the oil inside. It should be around a half inch down from the top.
Some more guys/gals will come along with some more suggestions.
Thanks for the help guys/girls...I did try the suggetions in the other post and still would not run. About an hour later without me really doing anything it fired up, I drove to the store, shut it off, came out of the store and strted and drove home. It does this every so often and I really dont want to be stuck in the mountains of NC with 3 kids. 2 dogs and 1 angry wife. !!! HA...I did notice that no black smoke comes out of exhaust when cracking if that matters...Thanks
Perhaps one of the batteries is dead and the other is carrying the load.....after awhile the 2nd will go as well. I recommend having them tested at an auto parts store.
