engine re-built with new gaskets,
thought it may be vacuum related, tried the ehter on the intake and near hoses no increase in rpm, also pulled the vac line off the fuel press. reg. ( Is it supposed to rev up significatnly?) did change rpm somewhat but not grealty.
I do have a considerable valve tap issue, but not enough that it makes me belive it is them, ( The valves will be adjusted this wknd)
I still have no idea why it boggs and dies after it is in gear and accelerated, and can be revved to the max when in neutral?
Either your valve timing or your ignition timing is off. When there is no load, it can rev. But it's not making enough power to push the truck, especially when the timing gets advanced.
The valves are not adjustable. You should be able to loosen the rocker bolt and then tighten it till just the slack is taken out of the pushrod. Then looking at the ratchet, tighten the bolt till it bottoms out, counting the turns. I believe the range is 3/4 to 1 1/2 turns. If it's out of this range the guys that rebuilt the heads messed up, or you put in an aftermarket camshaft with a different base circle. Ford recommends different length pushrods to fix it. Some people put little shims under the rockers.
Did you check the timing while revving the engine, with the "Spout" connector together? It is entirely possible that the computer is not advancing the timing properly. Also, base timing is set with that connector disconnected.
