Particulate filter??????
Particulate filter??????
Hey Guys and Gals,
I have heard nothing but bad things about this filter. Just what is it and what to do about it? A friend of mine bought a 2011 F350 and has had trouble too often with losing power, missing etc... The Ford dealership will take it in clean the filter and everything is OK until next time.

Tell your friend about FTE and have him come on here for a discussion. Anything he can add would be helpful. Lot's of knowledgeable people who can jump in.
My only problem with the DPF is that it exists. It takes fuel to clean which reduces mileage. All diesels have them now. I've never heard of anyone taking the dpf to the dealer for repeated cleanings. Especially not on a 2011. Trying to be nice here but what you're describing is either highly exaggerated or pure horse-do.

How long has said friend had the truck? Could it be he has an issue with the eurea lines that have been pinched during transport? I have read some reports about posiible intermittent urea supply issues on here somewhere causing power loss.
Yea, more detail here would be a great help.
This is the first DPF "issue" report I've heard about with a 2011.
It would seem some of the guys here already have 4,000 miles and it's hard to imagine it being plugged several times already and that's a lot of driving. If that's the case, the dealer needs to investigate what the actual problem is vs. a band-aid fix.

If you want to know exactly what it does when its properly working, there is a tv show called "sliced" that comes on tv. There is a garbage truck episode where they cut it open and than show you a 3d simulation of what happens within it.
As far as your getting stopped up completely and loss of power. Have your buddy check his boost gauge when its having "loss of power" ive had my truck a few times go into a limp mode or something. If you shut off the truck for 10 seconds and start it back up it would usualy go back to full boost.
If its having the same problem as mine with that its NOT DPF related. My DPF is working fine.

The only thing I have heard of that will mess up a DPF is not using ULS diesel. Maybe he ran a tank or 2 of something other than ULS or added something to the tank like used oil. Does sound fishy though.

Now it makes sense...you're one of "those" guys...thought this was going to be an interesting thread, but I'm getting the sense you really don't want to talk about a DPF issue...
Thanks
