Rear Axle Seals?
My right rear axle seal is leaking pretty bad and I need to get it changed out. Does it take any special tools to do this. I am working from about 4:30 in the morning till about 6 at night and I am hoping to do it in my garage after i get home. Will I be able to do it in a hour or so? I have a full floating axle right? I have done this on big trucks, just never on these small ones. I just don't want to get into it and find I cant finish it and use it the next day. Thanks guys
It has a large hub that inserts into the axle tube with tangs that release the locking mechanism in the nut, note that the nuts are right and left handed.
You should need 7269 2-3/4" shown on this page,

The hub also requires a puller however you can get it off without one with a little ingenuity. Myself before I had a large three jaw puller (you can get one cheap from places like harbor freight) I used a strap and a brick to pull em on my 87.
I attached the strap to two of the studs straight across from each other running it through the hole in a large cinder block, strap had three or four feet of slack. Once setup like that I threw the brick straight out and away from the spindle, not pretty but hey it popped the hubs right off.
Then just replace the seal, the brake shoes and preferably to clean and then also turn the drum to rid it of all the rear end grease.
Refill the rear diff with grease.
Be sure and hand pack the inner and outer bearing before reinstalling them, lubes them until rear end grease flows out and refills the hub as you turn right and left. Be sure and recheck level after a few days.
