Enough Power from a 352...

to break BOTH tires loose and keep them roasting without having to power brake it first on the pavement? The engine right now is all rebuilt and stock with only a true dual flowmaster exhaust and an aftermarket edelbrock aircleaner. The Tranny is a rebuilt c6 and its running to a 3.73 geared ford 9 inch turning 275/60 R tires. My truck has decent power but not enough to break tires loose from a dead stop and keep them rolling.....will a cam, aftermarket aluminum intake, 4 barrel carb, electronic ignition and headers and h pipe give me enough power to do that..or am I better off doing an engine swap?

Say you do an engine swap--a 390 would be the most logical one. You'll still have to rebuild it to make that kind of power. You could fiddle with the 352, and even do a stroker job on it and make 350 to 400 horse with the components you list, carefully selected. You can fiddle with the heads, rocker stands, end supports, valve springs and a couple other items up top to make sure it lives with the higher revs you'll see with those changes.

CID combos for FEs:

FE Engine C.I.D. Combinations

A .030 352 with a 390 crank = 386; with a 428 crank = 406.

I suspect the C6 is your culprit, they are designed to get you started and quickly shift into 2nd.

I think it is awesome to buy $300.00 tires and burn them down in a couple months.

Must be nice.

I would say the c-6 is hurting you. Put a shift kit in it. I would try a higher stall speed torgue converter. Also 4.10 gears couldn't hurt.

Try bleach.

OK, that's not helping....

Gearing, tire pressure, TC stall speed, etc are all going to help.

However, there's no replacement for displacement, and the 390 will put out gobs more torque than the 352/360 both because of size, and stroke. A 410 would be even better.

275 tires are pretty wide, that's 10.8 inches.

well the truck used to have a dana60 with 4.10 gears and 245/75R tires and I could fry one tire from a dead stop, but obviously after the gear change and tire size change it took some of my low end torque away, but I can now cruise freeway speeds at a comfortable rpm. I guess I just want to get my low end torque back! Im running an after market floor shifter with my c6 and Im not going back to 4.10's. For my truck to perform how I want it to I guess I need to loose some weight and get me a light small block?

You want power to fry both tires--going to a small block isn't going to get you there any easier than a build up of your current engine, or replacing the current engine with another FE.

If you put an aluminum manifold on the FE, you cut the weight down quite a bit, not that you will notice in a truck.

You didn't lose any low-end torque, you just don't multiply it by 4.10 anymore.

I would start shopping for a sound 390 or 360 to build into a larger engine, perhaps a 445 if you feel up to it....

More info, unless you've already decided to put a blower* on it:

Well thanks for the helpful info...it seems this boat anchor FE has a little more potential than i thought! Im on a super tight budget as of now so I guess a mild build of my 352 will have to make due for now as there are MANY other modifications to do to the truck, not to mention an entirely different project I need to put together! Eventually I think i will just build me a 445 hahaha

If you want to fry the tires real cheap, just remove the bed.

Number one mod is a set of headers.

What carb and intake are you running?
