ok so I found a zf5 has 120k miles on it, its in a f250 with the 7.3l idi and is 4x4, reg cab, wants $450 with the transfer case, If I bought the front and rear driveshafts they should work with my truck too right, his is a 88 f250 and my trucks a 93 f350 cab+chassis.
also how hard is it to change a clutch? I've never done it before but would obviously want to before I put in a new trans
Don't forget you will also need the pedal assembly, the slave and master cylinders for the clutch and all the associated hardware. To really make it a clean swap also the steering column and dash without the auto tranny selector etc....
ZF5 takes ATF like many other manual trannies these days. I think its just less than a gallon. But if you have the shifter/top cap off for install (which gives you some more clearance) you can pour the whole gallon in the top and not deal with trying to stuff it in the side fill hole.
yep, wheelbase is same, I'll put in mobil 1 atf like I did in my zf6, only question I have is how heavy is the tranny? like 150 pounds? I don't have a transmission jack also the truck will be on the ground while doing this swap not on a lift, I'm not going to do the SMF mod right away because I cannot afford the extra cost so I am going to weld the dmf together put in a new clutch and bearings, also I'm not getting the dash either I'm going to leave my truck with the autoshifter for now, cant I just cut it off or something?
