I thought there was a wire running underneath the brake master cyclinder which wasn't fuzed. Dripping brake fluid could catch it on fire. I also thought the fix through the recall was them adding a fusible link. I haven't taken mine in yet either for the CC recall but did the CPS recall sometime back.
its the switch on the end of the master cylinder. i herd it leaks and there. is no fuse, i unplugged mine and put a 2.5 amp fuse to keep my cruise working until i get a chance to bring it in. the switch is a extra cruise cut out. so i dont recommend what i did.
Oh hell, if it keeps mine from burning to the ground, I am onboard with you Chicago! I can work past CC mess ups, but catching fire will make my day even worse! Thanks for the heads up on which component! I will seal that puppy in good!
the switch is an extra cc disengage. i just un plugged it and put the fuse across those 2 wires, and left the switch alone. doing what i did takes the chance of the cruise not turning off when you hit the brakes. i do plan on getting mine done one day.
I called my local stealership today and they said it should take just a few minutes to get done. I really hate doing anything up there as they are rude and appear inconvenienced but for a short time and the opportunity to see them work on my truck for free I just can't pass it up. Oh yeah, I also don't want my truck to burn up...
i tried to get the dealership to just hand me the parts, they said no (big surprise). they want to keep my truck for two days. i dont have that kind of time.

Don't blame you. That's rediculous but no surprise. Did you call Lewisville, Euless, or even Southlake? I expect they'd all have Ford places.
Ok, interesting.. Anybody know exactly where the fire originates due to this recall? Is it the CPS itself, or another module due to the CPS? I am kinda screwed as my entire set-up is from a donor truck I got rid of, along with title. So the idea is to stay away from the originally installed one from the factory, right?
i think the cc recall was on all trucks with the master clynder switch. at i know it is on f150's and my girls 97 expedition.
Ive had the recall done and all it takes is 5 minutes the disconnect the wiring pigtail from the master cylinder and put in a 10" long extension piece between the mater cylinder and the main harness with a fuse block in it (like youd have for after market fog lights)with a 10amp fuse I think it was. The fuse should blow before there is a fire. Supposed to be due to the system doesnt turn the power off regarless of key of or not and it can overheat and ignite nothing nessasarily to due with fluid. They recall was supposedly like every truck from 92-04 as they all used the same system.
i basicly avoided the master cylinder switch with a 2.5 amp fuse. can i connect it back with the fuse in line and still be ok? i thought the problem was because of the switch leaking onto the connection.
No, been too lazy. Have you? I've got the scanner if you've got a dark gray one laying around.
I had the dark grey CPS in mine, but put the grey back in one day. still need to switch back to my dark grey CPS. i have a brand new black CPS, new dark grey CPS, and a grey CPS all sitting here. bring your scanner.
i'm leaving my grey CPS in my truck until i get the CC recall done. may see if i can get that done today.

why did you put the grey one back in, because of the recall?
Ken Payne introduced some software here years ago where all you have to do is say Ed, or Ed the parts guy, or FTE parts guy, and he'll miraculously show up here in a day or so.
Of course being a parts guy, he'll ask you for your vin number and year make model and stuff like that, so you might just be better off sending him a PM for the correct part number. Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: partsguyed.com
and only if I think I can help, or want to help.

I had my recall done last weekend.
