Still having problems with the carb, and instead of Mikey waiting for me to scrounge up the parts to rebuilt the Holley I was gonna give him he went out today and bought a brand new Holley 2bbl carb and is now waiting for me to come down and tune it for him.........What a deal! Wait a week for me to put a carb together for him for FREE, or spend $350 for a new carb?
Some people..............
Lol Don I got almost the same situation but even worse! A buddy of mine has a 79 chepy with a pretty much stock 350 he picked up over the summer to use as a winter truck. He was having all kinds of starting issues and it's was running rough. He asked me to rebuild the Edelbrock carb and I said yea bring it to me. He got antsy that weekend and decided to do it himself instead of waiting to bring it to me on Monday. It was his first carb rebuild... needless to say it wouldn't stop puking too much fuel because he didn't know how to set float height
Anyhow I told him to bring it to me and let me go back through it and adjust it all.. instead he went out and bought another Edelbrock carb and tossed on on there.
Guess what we are back to square one, it's still hard starting and runs rough! So I asked him what he had the timing set to... I loaned him a timing light back when he first got the truck and he still has it... his reply... I aint checked the timing yet, will you come do it this weekend? That was two weeks ago... I am going over there saturday time it and tune the carb.
Mikey bought a 86 chebby PU several years for $500 for his wife to haul her horse around. The old quadrapuke was toast so without asking me anything he goes out and buys a brand new Edelbrock for it. Made a big differance in how it ran, but got even worse fuel milage than the crappy quadrapuke! So then he comes to me and asks for help........I asked about his new carb and why he went with Edelbrock instead of Holley. He tells me the guy in the parts store told him it was the best carb for him. I put a used Holley 600 on the chebby and he went from 6.5 npg to 14! He now has a brand new Edelbrock setting on the shelf in his shop.....................
I think Jessie is going to end up the same way... I got an old holley 650 (I think) out in the shop. I will probably end up going through it and giving it to him. Then he will have 2 pretty edelbrock paper weights to display on the shelf hehe
Quick update. We got the new Holley installed and the new Cleveland runs sweet!
Now, on to the brakes......Mike bought all new parts for the disc brake conversion except........the proportioning valve, which was from a junk yard. Guess what, it's bad and won't release the front brakes sometimes......New one is on the way!
