Got my truck back from headgaskets, studs, egr delete, etc.,
Also asked mechanic to do the coolant flush.
I even bought two bottles of VC-9, 5 gallons of Ford gold coolant & 24 gallons of distilled water & left it all in the truck.
Guy says everything got done properly & went fine.
Well only 6 of the distilled waters were used. All 5 of the coolant was used. And the odometer changed by 0.2 miles between me dropping it off & picking it up, so I guess the flush wasn't run at temp. (?)
What does this say to you, or am I over thinking it?
I think I'm going to redo the flush myself this weekend ... the way I wanted it done in the first place, before I install my coolant filter.
Also noticed the coolant reservoir is still full of gray gunk ... is this because the flush wasn't done right? I'm thinking I might take it off the truck and scrub it myself .. or buy a new clean one.
Plus ... after all that major work done to the engine, I don't think 0.2 miles is much of a road test before handing it back. Is that typical? If it starts get it out the door & off the lot??
I guess it's still true ... If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!
Does not sound like he did a very good job at flushing it. I ran about 60+ miles on my truck when i did mine.
You should be able to flush out you degause bottle and clean it out. But yea I would find some one else to work on your truck and might worry about the rest of the work he did as well.
.2 miles on a job of this magnitude is absolutley unacceptable. But there is a line like john diem said, you cant ask the tech to drive it 60 miles unless you want to pay him to do so. I drive all big jobs like this atleast 10-15 miles, and some times I will get our shop monkey to dirve it a little more, but not all shops have said monkey.
If driving the truck for a certain number of miles is part of doing the flush properly ... and if using the distilled water (which I paid for and left it in the bed of the truck) is the proper way to do the flush, then do those things and bill me for them.
We spoke about the above items. I'll pay for that 60 miles .. or 30, or 40, or whatever ... isn't it part of the price?
Who has a price list for doing it properly & a price list for not doing it properly??
But regardless off all that ... new headgaskets, egr delete, arp studs, new oil cooler (he said he couldn't order the core so I guess I got the whole thing), new hpop filter, new water pump, coolant flush, turbo rebuild, new cranksensor .... not even 1 or 2 miles driven to see if all is ok?
I just got to rant. There's other things I won't mention & I won't call out names on line ... but I won't be going back with any of my vehicles.
Just a bad taste & a level of doubt about all previous work done.
basicly hears the deal. I drive all my trucks 9-10 miles. except recals and reflashes. that mean an egr valve will go 10 miles. Not the shop monkey in the seat either. I drive all major repairs 20-50 miles depending on what was done, issue I or the truck had durring repairs etc. If it needs to go byond that then it a Monkey driving it after I have. I will say I dont drive many 50 miles but from time to time I have to most are closer to the 20.
But there is another saying sometimes you get what you pay for. At our shop heads and coolers would have run $2500-3k in labor alone. but if it was all oem parts it would be 12/12 on the repair. that means If I have to reflush it next week I reflush it next week for free.
Idont like doing free work, So I try very hard to get it right the first time its in my stall.
Doesn't sound like money was ever an issue here. Piolet wanted a correct repair regardless, as I think anyone here would. I'd be up his AZZ with both feet and a sledgehammer. Gray gunk in the coolant reservoir is total BS.
Asuming the 5 gallons of Ford Gold was premixed, how do you get a 50/50 ratio? Most everyone dumps in 3 to 3 1/2 gallons of straight Gold and top off with distilled to assure exact ratio.
I took the degause tank off after I put a strong solution of vc-9 in it and let it soak. Then I used high pressure from the water hose to clean it out while it was off. Thats probably the only way to get it to look new. Even with taking the thermostat out it still took me four hours to do the complete flush. I'm very picky and kept flushing with tap water until the water coming out was clear then did the whole distilled water process. I don't think a mechanic being paid by the hour will go to that much trouble.
