Hey Guys, I am new to the powerstroke world. Just bought a used 2007 F350 Lariat Super Duty. The previous owner had the Cat and muffler deleted, I suspect for better fuel economy and possibly a slight power gain.
The exhaust system now just has a straight pipe and the rocket ship woosh and whistle to go along with it. The noise isn't too bad until you roll down the passenger window. My wife hates it and won't ride in it because it's too loud.
I guess that really isn't a problem after all. LOL.
Any how, any recommendations on what muffler I should install. I don't want to restrict the airflow too much, but I do want to quiet it down a fair bit.
Thanks
Walker 21470 is $46.99 at www.rockauto.com, and you can get 5% off with code 33599912715005 (put it in the "how did you hear about us" box and submit, and a discount line will appear).
...I bought a 4" Pro, installed it and love it. It still has a nice throaty sound but no more whooshhhh!
BTW, the price is quite a bit higher than the one listed by "smlford" but IMO, worth it. It's $199 at Summit, Jeggs, etc. and Amazon has it at $187.
Hey guys thanks for the info. I was looking at the Magnaflow pro series, but they are a bit pricey$377, and they don't say that they are quiet. Hate to spend that kind of money and find out it is just as loud.
Jimd1050, have you noticed any increase in power or mileage since you put yours on?
Cheers

Going from straight pipe to the muffler, I wouldn't expect an increase - I just wanted to quiet down what I was already happy with for HP and mileage.
So you are really happy with the hush power? Are you running a 4in pipe all the way back from the turbo, or did you just use a couple of reducers to reduce it down to the stock 3.5 in pipes?
I had straight pipe on my 7.3L (previous owner did it). I had to roll up the windows if I was driving next to barriers. Ear splitting noise. Can't imagine how bad it was to be in the car beside me. And you should have heard it when the exhaust back pressure valve closed down.... holy crap! It was like an F16 was attached to me.
I put on a Banks 4" and the sound outside the truck went down a ton. Sound inside the truck didn't really change with windows up. The engine noise is most the problem and exhaust didn't change that.

I am running 4" DPF/CAT Delete feeding the HushPower 4" then into the Banks Ram Air single 4" out...
I found a place locally here that carries the Hush Power line so I will probably go that route.
I am just waiting for the local Ford dealer to resolve my ABS Light issue. They have tore the truck apart and can't find anything. They are now into the wiring harness looking for a break, a poor ground or corrosion of some sort. I hope they find it soon. I hate bumming rides to work!!
Well the auto parts store that carries the Hush Power muffler doesn't carry them any longer. So I went to a 4" Flowmaster series 50 muffler. Just finished hanging it and it has made a marked difference. Not as quiet as I had hoped, but the wooosh sound is greatly muffled.
