My friend lost the charger for a Toro string trimmer, model # 51467. So he bought a new one, and gave me this one. It's still brand new, and perfect for our small yard.
It says it's a 12 v. But I couldn't find any chargers with a plug that fits.
So can I just get one of those chargers where you select 6,9,12,etc volts and comes with the different sized plugs and charge it up with that?
The safe answer is no - those are called "wall warts" and are nothing more than an AC to DC converter that regulate a constant output voltage. Different battery chemistries exhibit different charging behavior and a "smart" charger will make use of this.
The battery may output 12 volts, but the correct charger might apply less than or more than 12 volts at different times depending on the charge curve of the battery. You should look for the original charger made by the manufacturer.
