I am toying with the idea of installing a switch or kit to lock the convertor. For those that have this mod on their truck. Have you had any issues or are concerned with failure of the stator? My tranny guy says I should not use the trans as a breaking device because the cast stator can fail when asked to perform in the opposite direct from which normal forward operating stresses have been placed on it.
I just let my DP Tunes control my TC lock up. It does an efficient job without me having to worry about when to unlock it. It keeps the TC locked to low enough speed on its own. I doubt that I would ever need to hold it for any lower. I also have an aftermarket TC, so I'm not worried about the stator or any other part of it.
My tunes keep the TC locked down to ~25 mph before it unlocks. The trans also down shifts from OD to 3rd at ~45 mph. These features allow for better deceleration and work fine for me. My TC lock up during the upshifts will vary somewhat with the amount throttle given. I have seen a slight increase in mpg over my older tunes that did not have these TC lock strategies.
I have just finished putting this in https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ck-switch.html
The reasons why are in my post. Now I have the light to tell me when the TC is lock (wether by me or the PCM) which is good to know. I have to agree with Roland, the DP keeps it locked to a fairly slow speed. I doubt I will use it much but it was easy and is handy to have. Cost me about $60
