I did not do the more complex switch like Guzzle which disables the flashing O/D light. I just wired in a plain toggle switch that grounds out the power to the TC. After talking with Brian at BTS about using the switch, I haven't used it much. You need to make sure that you don't allow the truck to shift with the TC locked or else it will be doing damage to the internal components of the trans.
WIth out slaming or sounding like I amslamming anything, unless you tow alot, I see no need in doing this, especially since you have the DP 80 tow.. That should be all you need..
Subscribing, I tow a lot and wondering how this would or wouldn't benefit me. I run an Edge programmer with a 60Tow, 80 race and 100 extreme settings. Seems 80hp tunes works best towing 10K lbs. I really need to get a DP Tuner, but mods cost money that I don't have at the moment. With that said should I just wait to get a DP tuner or do the mod? I am not even sure if I understand how it would be used towing, i.e. I am always learning everday.
I live in a low valley and have a rather long up hill drag to get up to the flow of traffic. I always warm my truck up before I leave but the tranny dont get warm until I start moving. Now the meander up the windies is fine. 2nd gear 1800rpm through the twistie stuff. Then it sraightens up (still climbing) and I have to merge into traffic that is doing 80-90 Kph. Thats where my problem is. I can get her to change into 3rd but I dont want to flog a semi warmed up motor and the TC wont lock cause its in its cold mode. So here I am doing 50-60 kph babying my motor trying to merge into all these ratbags racing to get to work in time cause they all had that extra 15mins in bed. Thats about the only time I would use it. Once Im up top and in the flow I would turn it of never to be touched until the next morning. I like the neat and professional look of Guzzles work and the opportunity to tackle something new excites me.
Brian, the trans needs to warm to perform its best, I dont think it is in your best intrest to do the mod, but I am sure there will be somone else along soon who knows better..
Advice taken on board but Im going ahead with it. Now for the voilet/with yellow stripe at connector. I take the side of the connector leading away down the chassis is feeding the trans and the one leading up into the main harness is feeding the PCM
Mark Kovalsky is a member here that you should probably PM. He knows our transmissions inside & out because (IIRC) he was a Ford transmission engineer for a good while. Good luck with this mod! I have a similar drive leaving work and it stinks to putt-putt along...
Nice clean install on that set up, Brian.. Good job.. I like mine. Only really use it when pulling the 5th wheel. Next for yea is the "Kwikkordead" EBPV Brake Mod. Cheap and Works great when pulling also. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...brake-mod.html
