starter solenoid arcing
Guys and Girls,
I am having some sort of electrical problem with my F1. I just had an newer flathead engine put in it this winter. When I try and start it, the thing arcs at the starter solenoid. Is this resistance? I am going to try and tighten down all the connections and see if that helps.
Thanks for any advice, and Happy Father's day. Wish my dad was here to wish him one.
Jeff

What kind of starter button do you have?
There are two types: one is a single prong that simply completes the circuit from the solenoid to ground (it's grounded to the dash). This is usually used on a 6 volt positive ground vehicle
The other type which is usually used with a 12 volt negative ground set up. It has two prongs and takes power in, completes the circuit and feeds some power to the starter solenoid.
As you can see they operate almost completely differently.
Also, do you have a three stud (two large and one small) starter solenoid, or a four stud (two large and TWO small)? Again different for 6 and 12 volt applications respectively.
The single post starter button is used with the 6V three post solenoid. And the two post button is used with the four post 12V solenoid. Pics below:
