Anybody know how much weight an add-a-leaf will allow me to carry in the bed? I've checked 3 sites and no definitive answer. I'm sure someone has added one.
I believe they come with different ratings, so you need to check what the manufacturer says.
Even my F450 has the additional leaf -I had problems with rear sagging under load due the rear axle being up front of the center of my flatbed. (what a stupid engineer design something like it?)
So I added air helper bags. They are rated for 5000 lb. With the in-cabin controls they made me very happy

Thanks...I was trying to go the least expensive route, but airbags are always an option too. I just need to carry about 600lbs more, and despise the truck not being level when I'm loaded.
when i had the spring shop make me a rear long add a leaf he said that a 3/8 thick spring that is twenty inches long from center pin out from either direction should carry app. 700 to 800lbs more. since i made mine as long as possible it is now third from the top it easy carries 800lbs more with a huge decrease in sag. the truck should have come this way from the factory because it doesnt ride any rougher plus it carries weight like it should not like a loaded down civic.
heres what it looks like with 4 yards of moist topsoil on my trailer
also my buddy put a six inch lift on his 01 ford dually and he gave me is rear leaf springs for free. i would have put them in but they were so rusted between each leaf i just scraped them. i did us his camper leaf and bottom overload spring because they are thicker than a srw trucks springs. so they might help i dont know because i never got the truck to sag that much yet to find out.
I'll go down the hill tomorrow to a place in Fort Collins and see if they have a setup I can use. I'd rather do the add-a-leaf if at all possible. Thanks.
