While installing a new fender solonoid, I accidentally left the ignition on - something sparked and I lost all power to the truck.
I have checked all fuses under the hood and the dash for continuity - all good. Truck has new battery and starter - new cable clamp on positive and negative terminals. Big cable to starter and solonoid checked for continuity. Little cable from solonoid to ignition - good. Small red cable to starter good. All grounds check out. I can spin the starter when I manually ground across the ignition - but it won't start, even with the ignition switch on. There is no power to lights, interior, - in fact, the only time I can get power is when I short across the solonoid. Put old solonoid back on - same thing. I'm stumped - What am I missing?
I'm not real familiar with a '91. But generally speaking, there are probably a few wires going from the battery positive at one or more points (from the starter solenoid maybe), that have integral fusible links. It seems you've checked most of the cables, and found no problems. I'm thinking that ONE of the wires (cables) going directly to the wiring harness to supply most power to most devices has lost the fusible link (fried when you accidentally sparked). If you can check EACH AND EVERY CABLE that has an integrated fusible link for a good hot voltage reading, that might reveal something.
