Axle seals

Both of my rear axle seals are leaking.

The only thread I found when I searched is one for a truck with brake drums. Mine has disk brakes.

Can any one tell me how hard this is to do?

Replaced my drivers side a few months back and followed this set. Worked great.

I was just looking in my haynes about this the other day. You can pull the axle out without even pulling the wheel off. Just unbolt the 8 bolts that hold the axle in (in the center of the hub). Pull the Axel out then replace the o-ring (or at least that's what it looks like in the haynes). Slide the Axel back in and install new bolts with a little blue thread lock, and torque to 98lbs. I haven't done this but that is what the haynes says.

You are correct. Remove the 8 bolts. Slide the axle out. Replace the o ring on the axle, coat the o ring with some oil before you install the axle. The only thing I am going to say different than what texans said is my 2005 Ford factory shop manual says to torque the axle retaining nuts to 80ft-lbs.

I just saw that link that UGA33 posted. That link is showing you how to replace the hub seals. I just want to be clear what you are trying to fix. Hub seals are on the rear of the hub. When they leak you have diff oil running all over your brakes and the inside of the rear tires. The axle seals are on the outside of the axle where it is held into the diff housing with 8 bolts. When the axle seal goes you have diff oil leaking onto the outside of your wheel and tire.

I meant hub seals. The rear axle hasn't changed in the trucks since 99. It would be the same process. He is replacing the parking brake shoes in that write up, not drum brakes. If you have had a hub seal go bad, you are more than likely going to need to replace the parking brakes shoes. They will be covered in rear end fluid.
