Hey everyone. Here's a quick update picture from where I'm at. Or from where I was at yesterday as now I'm onto the task of disconnecting the cab then taking it off.
Not too long until it's time to pull the engine out and I'm curious, since it runs, it won't need much more than a solid cleaning and tune up but if it does, how difficult is it to give her an overhaul?
Here Julie. This is all you'll get for now as we are just about to take the cab off and decide whether we'll blast everything ourselves. Thoughts?
What do you think people? She runs so can I do a good clean and tune or, if needed, an overhaul; or is that something best left to a professional?

I was looking for the casting marks to see if it was a 51 or a 52 engine. Thanks though.
.......You guys are doing a complete frame off restoration, maybe you want to rebuild.
My opinion: If it's not broken.......steam clean it and paint it.
are there any more comprehensive details to go with "steam cleaning" or do i just roll her outside and blast away?
Spray it liberally with diesel fuel the night before and get a set of wire and stiff brushes, maybe a new bottle of 'Dawn' dish soap. rag stuff an d mask the intakes. Give each one of the kids $5 to get their suits on, buy some Pabst, and have some fun.
Buy some Pabst ? For what ? Certianly not to drink .I think it would accomplish more by pouring that beer on a rusty , greasy ,dirty old flattie !! I heard a NASCAR champion say that the only thing that beer was good for was steaming brats!!

Hey, there's no need to call the kids names!
I use Pabst as an additive to the steam cleaner formula to help remove grime.
I should have clarified!
Karl Straus Amber Lager is good to drink if you are steam cleaning!
An American friend brought over some of that Pabst one time. I had a couple with him and promptly went down and got some real beer (Pilsner Old Style). I had a hard time believing that people called that other stuff beer.....lol.
Papajoe....that's coming along....yur really 'flyin' atter'...good luck and I can hardly wait to see how it turns out.
Thanks for starting a new concept in auto repair: BEER PAIRINGS to go with what task you're doing. i.e Karl Strauss - Steam cleaning the engine... I would like to ask once more: How difficult would it be to overhaul our engine? Like I said before, she runs but will need a good, solid tune up at the very least. If there are any needs above that do I immediately go to a pro or are there any success stories of the hobbyist doing just fine?
I would just clean up the motor, check out the electricals and fuel system. See if it will fire up and take it from there. You never know until you try. It might run like a charm.
Do this before you get too far ahead with disassembly. Then you will know for sure what way you want to go.
