I am making my F250 into my dream dentside and since IDK what it originall was, I want to make it a Ranger XLT with the Trailer Special. I am asking what was so great about the trailer special? Cause I want to hit all the details, but the detial will be new items. And all the info about Trailer Specials would help. I have already searched and found nothing, Thanks guys.
I compiled this for the 78-79 Bronco's but it is the same info for the F-series. The only giveaway that it was a Trailer Special model on the outside was the badge in the lower center of the tailgate. You'll notice no trailer hitch was included in the Trailer Special package either.
Light duty trailer towing package:

This package included a heavy duty radiator, external oil cooler, seven lead trailer harness, heavy duty turn signal flasher and the Trailer Special emblem on the T-gate.

This package included a heavy duty alternator, heavy duty battery, HD rear shocks, bigger radiator, rear sway bar, swing out recreational mirrors, amp meter, oil pressure gauge, HD front springs, external oil cooler and the Trailer Special emblem on the T-gate.
I'm probably wrong but wasn't the rear axle back further on the truck? Correct me if i'm wrong please haha.
No, that is a Camper Special.

I don't think Ford ever included a wire for a trailer brake. If they did it would of included it in the list of add ons for the Trailer Special package.
I think I know which yellow connector you are talking about, my 77 F150 and my 66 Fairlane both have them. Its a pretty heavy wire with 3 female bullet style connectors in a row. I don't know its intention but is keyed battery power. I powered my tach off of it on both vehicles.
The 3 female bullet connectors are live powered to run accessories such as power for the light up visors, glovebox light and so on. I've never seen or heard of this single brake control wire.

YUP, on our '67 Fairlane the seat belt reminder light/buzzer plugs into it. And I beleive my '79 lighted vanity visor does indeed plug into that same female plug.

Yeah, They had F-350 140" Wheel-Base Trailer Specials. Very similar to The Super Camper Special, as they both had the Spare Tire Compartment.
'77-'79 Trailer Special Emblem, This was on the tailgate in about the center.
(I can read the part number, it is D6UB11402A16-AA.
