Omni clear coat
Omni clear coat
Anyone ever use Omni high solids clear coat and if so how did you like it? My paint store talked me into buying it today but every time I hear the phrase "It's their economy line" I get nervous. Thanks for any responses
I just picked up a gallon of paint that's Omni. I'm kind of tight with the local parts store manager and have full faith in what ever he recommends to me. I told him I was ready for paint and he never even asked if I wanted the PPG or Omni. While I was there I found out I was 3rd for paint while there and everyone bought Omni. One asked price difference and found PPG was like 3 times the cost. SO I wrote all this and sorry but I might not have been much help
Omni is PPG's lower line I use the Omni line all the time the clear you are talking about is a nice clear coat I switched to it awile back from Nason witch is Duponts lower line.
The guy at the paint store I use told me that alot of the painters that used to use PPG top line are now using the Omni line as it sprays like the old PPG line.
He also said that the EPA regs for lower vescosity took effect that it is regulated across the board and not each line so PPG revamped the PPG line and named the old line Omni.

Omni/Shop Line by PPG has different grades of products. There are currently 6? clears I think now. They do have a lower grade of clear in the line that isn't really anything I would use nor do I promote it. The one I would use is MC270. Its a Polyurethane clear and is going to have a bit better gloss and strength than the 260 and 261. I've sprayed it a couple times now and it looks awesome. Also, in the basecoat line, Omni plus is a lot better than standard Omni. Colors cover much faster and it gives a better color match. Pricing is between standard Omni MBC and Deltron DBC. As far as what Action said, UV additives are one of the more expensive parts of making clearcoat. So there's gonna be some sacrifice there in the cheaper clears. For example, PPG gives a lifetime warranty on their better clears at a PPG certified body shop. They don't do anything for the Omni line. That doesn't mean they aren't decent products, but they aren't going to last like the more expensive stuff.
