SCT Tuner

So i'm looking at getting an sct x3 with custom tunes from innovative diesel. My truck is all stock, i'm just looking for a little more power. Is this tuner going to blow my head gasket or cause other problems? I don't really have the money to spend on head studs or EGR Delete or anything else like that, so if its going to cause problems i'm just gonna stay away from it. Oh it is a 2007 F-250 with 100,000 miles.

Thanks in advance,
kjf-250

I personally wouldn't run their EXTREME Race and EXTREME Street tunes without Head studs. I'm not sure will you be happy spending the money if you only for a mild power increase.

Yeah I wasn't planning on running any extreme tunes. You think I won't gain any power unless I run extreme tunes?

You'll gain some with his street tune. It's not a bad tune good power and really livens up the truck a bit. U could get a tow, aggressive tow, and street tune. Anytime u change a truck from stock performance your running a risk. His tunes are pretty safe but how safe is safe compared to stock? I think you'd be alright running his street tune but there's always that chance.

Before I got my tuner I did as much reliablity mods as I could just to have the reassurance that I've done everything I could do to make my truck fail proof. At one point or another somethings gonna break on my truck it's inevitable but what isn't. Good luck hope this helps in your decision.

Thanks

Shawn

Whats that old saying I have heard alot? Oh yea, if you want to play be prepared to pay $.
IMO ford put these headstuds in these trucks to handle the power there making now, and in some instances they do not even hold up to that. So, I would say if your not prepared to pay for any unforeseen circumstances they may arise, then I would say no.
Good luck

I would get the SCT from Eric just for the transmission tuning if nothing else. IMHO factory transmission tuning sucks because it has to be so generic. Give Eric a call and let him know what you want and he can fix you up.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. This is actually for my dads truck, and after driving multiple 7.3s of all years, he doesn't get the fact that the 6.0 cant handle a tuner for 350,000 miles like his previous trucks did. But thanks for the info. I'm thinking about going ahead and getting it. If it blows the head gasket, then that will give me the opportunity to put head studs, etc...

Here's the thing that gets me about naysayers and tuning. For anyone that NEVER drove one of the early 03's with FACTORY tuning those things ROCKED. Straight up Bad A$$. A lot more so than the 05,6,7's ever did from the factory, and there are a LOT of 03's with some serious mileage that have never been to the dealership for a reflash.

Eric can offer you tunes that have the EGR disabled. I got the Economy, Tow, and Street tunes. My truck has no other mods, so I wanted to go conservative, but wanted to disable the EGR to keep the intake tract clean, and hopefully boost MPG a little. I want to eventually do a full EGR delete, but won't have time until winter.

Yeah I was thinking of getting 3 similar tunes. What does disabling the EGR do? Would it be of any benefit to disable if i'm not planning on doing an EGR delete anytime soon? Sorry for all the questions the whole EGR thing confuses me.
Thanks again

It would assure you don't get any codes or limp mode when you do the EGR delete.

What improvements have you observed with these tunes? I have been thinking of going with these three. I am still on factory head bolts, also.

While all 3 of my ex's have been tuned for the life of them, I have to somewhat disagree with the overly cautious statements you are getting...

Yes, anything CAN go wrong.... Heck a tree next to your house could fall on it...
is that the occupants fault ?!?!? NO - stuff just happens...

but with anywhere close to good tuning (and Eric does) and
any good flow through exhaust (other than stock) and
you can run it for a while without issues - I have !

I plan on keeping my Ex until they come up with something comparable....
and I don't see that happening for a long time with the weiners in office now days !

good luck on your decision, but be forewarned, once you put a tuner on, you will never like driving it stock again
Super responsiveness, better mpg, just more enjoyable driver's car !!!

Thanks for all the info guys. If I get the tuner i'm also probably going to get an after market exhaust. Which is the best? I want something that will sound good, but I do a lot of interstate driving and don't want a loud drone.
Thanks

the best pipe I have really found is the oem pipe. maybe minus the cat and muffler... if for no other reason it already paid for. second to that is 4" pipe.
do not go to a 5" its just to big for the turbo spooling.
