98 F150 4.6 4x4. When I turn my steering wheel to one side or the other it squeaks. The sound is coming from the engine side of the firewall and sounds like a rubber bushing or a joint. Is there a grease fitting or something on the steering column that should be lubricated on occassion?
'97's were known for the "lubricated for life" joint at the end of the Pitman Arm squeaking.
I bought a needle tip for my grease gun, and stabbed the rubber boot around the backside. Put enough grease into it to swell the joint's rubber boot some.
Figured that was a temporary fix, that it would return and I'd have to replace the Pitman Arm. Never squeaked again. It's been many years since I did that.
