Any thoughts on what to do with saging front springs? The truck is an 01 with 135,000 on it. I replace the rear springs two years ago with a heavy duty set due to a broken leaf.
Can not decide weather to buy new for the front or go with an add a leaf.
Well its pretty much your call. Either one will work, just depends what you want to spend and how much taller they need to be. IMO if they sag together i.e., both sides the same it doesnt matter but if one side is lower than the other I would get new springs cause an add a leaf wont fix a lean prob.
I have been considering how I will deal with the same issue and I think replacing the springs is the only proper choice. Adding a leaf/ leveling kit won't do anything but bandaid the sag. Why not replace them with new springs for another 10 years of service?
I just replaced my sagging leaf springs on the front of my Excursion with some V code springs I believe. Ford had a few different spring options for the front of the Superduty. Here is some good reading:
Apparently there was a problem at Ford. Engineering speced the proper spring for the 7.3L, but Sales said it rode too rough (So lighter duty springs were installed, but couldn't handle the weight)...Sales won! That is how I remember it anyways. I hope this helps. Oh, I got my springs from PartsGuyED for a decent price.
Trying to decide what to do about same problem on my 03.So when you see a leveling kit offered that is just a helper or add on spring.I have just started looking into options.
How did the V code springs work for you by the way?

The V code did a pretty decent job (I gained about 2" in the front). The spring doesn't look like a "W" like the last one did, but it doesn't have as much arch as I would like to see. I went with V codes so I get a nicer ride, and it does have a pretty smooth ride with no bottoming out on the bump stops. I think I would try the X codes next time around, but it is a pretty expensive test. I just didn't want the X codes to be too stiff. I had an F250 with the 7.3L and the ride was very rough.
