Common problem, check the socket, there is a tab near the glass part of the bulb for the ground, that rusts away. Test it by putting in a ground wire jumper touching the bulb, then by a new socket(s).

By tailights not working, do you mean brake lights, or when you turn the headlights on, you still don't have anything? If it's just brake lights, I'd suggest a new brake switch. If it's the latter, Bad sockets, grounds, plugs...check them, clean them, replace them if need be.

Check your signal switch in the steering column. Mine's acting up itself....when I step on the brake, only my right brake light comes on. If I hold the turn signal lever up just a little to the right, the left brake light comes on and the right goes out. Sometimes neither of them work, sometimes they both do. My problem is in the signal switch, it can cause the brake/tail lights not to work. (Mine is broken, I can hear a little piece rattling around in there...lol)
