Looking for some feedback on the wastegate adjustment
Alright, I'm seriously considering doing this mod... but I don't wanna do it if there's a good chance I'll blow my turbo apart. I know the BB Garretts can handle 40lbs of boost... are the stock Garretts that far off? Those that have done this mod: could you post up your real world experience with this? Also, I saw kwikkordead's thread on the wastegate adjustment... could someone explain? What am I shooting for? Do I adjust the rod as far as I can or what?
I'm still running the original turbo with WW installed on my truck with the wastegate adjusted like I did in that video.
Did you adjust your's all the way, or did you adjust it right before the point that the check engine light comes on? I don't have the means to test my PSI like you do... what would you recommend?
I guess that would depend on the condition of your actuator. With the new one on mine just a couple turns past where it slips on the pin and it will defuel before the waste gate opens
Hmmm... looks simple enough. But what I wanna know is this: do/can I adjust it ALL the way, or do I need to tweak it?
I don't see where you need to touch the WG rod. You don't have a chip or gauges so I don't think you will gain anything. You could unplug the red tube from the actuator and push the end on one of your clamp threads, that will do about the same thing.
Would you recommend NOT doing this mod without the WW swap? I'm not running any tunes. Except the ol' satellite radio.
You can try it, but the late intake wheels stall so easily that I don't think it's a good idea to push them.
Besides the WW sounds so much better.
More like a jet engine than the vacuum cleaner sound that the late wheel produces.
