If you've ever ridden a motorcycle, or driven a jeep, you'll notice others of the same will wave in passing. I've noticed a lot lately, that the few dentsides that are on the road, seem to be waving more often lately. Just wondered if this is just happening in my area or if its elsewhere as well.
I don't notice it much here in the cities in MN but when I go home to Iowa everybody waves when passing. But there you might drive 30 minutes before you see someone. Ha. There is a guy that has a 78 or 79 bronco and we both wave when I am driving my 75 to work and we pass. Never actually talked.
I always make it a point to wave at another guy in a dent side when I'm driving mine; other guys always seem to do the same. It's part of the Old Truck Code.
I think it's like a 'throwback mindset'. If your truck is a reflection of you, it's a reflection of a different time period which results in a different attitude. Simply put, us guys with these trucks enjoy the simple things and have time to stop and smell the roses and have a mutual respect for others driving similar trucks.
I've done and seen it before many times. I live in canada, and I first noticed it when I bought my motorcycle.
I call it "the code of the road".
I believe it's a nice gesture that's being passed on through whomever notices you on the road. It feels great to be literally noticed and recognized while driving on the road. It's as if they came up to you personally and said "nice ride, glad to see you out here".
When you have it first happen to you, you feel strange as if they noticed something is wrong with your ride, or at least, that's how I felt. When it first occured, I looked all over my bike to notice nothing was wrong with it, but that I was recognized for just "being there" out on the road. After a while, I started to realise that you're just being notified that you're in an elite league of other riders that recognize each other for their participation on the road.
It makes you feel somewhat special because you're being recognized for the vehicle you drive as if you're the only person on the planet that has that bike/truck and someone else enjoys seeing you out there on the blacktop.
If you noticed, you never see it happen in a car or truck of regular sighting on the asphalt.
Therefore, I say "PASS IT ON!" because it makes everyone feel great to be recognized!
