Black platform side steps

will be ordering a 2012 XLT. Due to my wife's small stature, I need running boards to help her into the truck. I have read where the tubular's are close under the truck and don't really care for chrome. I searched on black platforms and one response was they stick out nice, but no pictures. does anyone have a picture of the black platforms or measurements on far far they stick out. I have read comments on how peoples feet have trouble gripping on the chrome tubulars.
Thanks guys

I have the chrome tubular bars on my truck and they work just fine. I am 6' 3" and I use the every time I go in and out of my truck. My girlfriend is 5' 3" and she certainly has no problem.

I wouldn't expect to see an 2012's till this fall at the earliest. I was getting my oil changed at the dealer yesterday and his lot is still full of 2011's. The nice cash incentives haven't kicked in yet.

I was just talking with the boss at my dealership today and he confirmed that they are building the '12's now but that they are not yet shipping any of them to the dealers yet. He's expecting to get his first allotment of the new trucks in just over a month's time (mid october).

Hope this photo of my 11 FX4 will help and is what you are talking about. As you can see, the factory Ford running boards are close and tight to the truck body, but still work very well as a step. They are painted body color, but have black pads on top side for foot grip. I like them a lot. My 09 FX4 had the tubular chrome factory running boards, but I like these better. After only 2 years, the factory chrome boards already had several very small pits and I'm sure in time they would not have looked very good. The painted boards on the 11 FX4 should stay looking good for a very long time.

I usually lurk in the '88 - '96 Forum but work as a Fleet Sales Mgr at a Ford Dealership. The order bank is open now but Job 1 for the 2012 F150 is mid October so you may see them on Dealer's lots by November 15th.

Thanks for the pictures, guys, that what I wanted to see.
I have the FX4 type(but Chromed) on my 2004.5, but going for a new XLT and they aren't offered on the XLT, only black platforms or tubular. Getting away from the black interior. It gets too hot on the AZ/UT border

thanks for the correction. my guy is generally pretty accurate which is why I passed along what he told me but, I'll go with your info here since you would definitely be likely to know for sure on something like this.
