Found a 302
Hey guys, I inherited an old automotive shop. It had a ton of old tools and parts in it. All the parts were Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Well when we were cleaning it out we found a 302 wrapped in plastic. It was either new or rebuilt. What I would like to know is what would it take to make this engine right. Not performance wise but prep wise. Do I need to completely disassemble it or just clean it up. The plastic was torn and it had lizards and spiders living in it. As it is very humid here it has a good amount of surface rust on it. Is it a car or truck engine? Here are pics.

That needs a complete overhaul IMO, the lifter valley looks like it has been sitting in the ocean for 5 years so I'd be really surprised if the internals don't look the same. You'll never know if it was originally a car or truck motor but you can find out some things about it from the casting numbers, see the sticky at the top of this section.

That's what I was kinda thinking Conanski. I have a bore scope and it's not rusty inside . I don't think I could clean it properly and still keep the inside clean. anyway. It looks like it'll be a good project. I just didn't want to throw it away. It would seem like a waste. Thanks for the reply.
