Is this true about Texans?
Situation:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your pocket is a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What do you do?

Liberal Response:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation? What kind of gun is it?
Does it have a safety device built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun and what kind of message does this send to society?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with
some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.

Conservative Response:
BANG!

Texan's Response:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
click...click. (sounds of clip being ejected and fresh clip installed).
Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"

The first problem is that a true Texan won't use anything under .45 unless it's a magnum
There would be no BANG, it would be KA-BLAMM
Second, you forgot that the wife would also draw & shoot.
Childen aren't allowed handguns, so unless they have their hunting rifles their description would be fine.

Hmmmm...
I shouldn't be Liberal or Conservitive, it should be subject or citizen..
That description is a LITTLE overblown... (Had to)
Like myself, most of us carry a weapon hoping that we never have to use it, though I'm sure a few are spoiling for a fight.
15 years ago I prevented an "incident" in Atlanta just by having a pistol, and with the Good Lords' grace, I have never had to use mine these last 4 years I have had a license to carry.
As for "finishing him off", I would hope we all would shot to stop, not shoot to kill.
Shooting to "kill" gets you in a lot more trouble than shooting to "stop". When the aggression stops, the shooting stops.
I guess it all boils down to who is wrong, the no goodnick out to cause harm, or the innocents he intends to harm.
I could go on ad nauseum, but I won't.
Keep the Second, it protects the rest.

P.S. Roger on the .45
"One common reason some people whine for more gun control: By blaming guns for the violence of people, they don't have to confront the fact that they value their own lives less than that of an armed and dangerous thug they may one day meet." — Michael James (Not me, another Mike)
"I spent 30 years as a California law enforcement officer, with 21 of those 30 years spent as a crime scene investigator. I have personally been to way too many crime scenes where the victims would still be alive today if they had a gun in their hand instead of a telephone when their door was kicked in by their killer."

Well I have to say I laughed at that one! It seems like people depict us as uncivilized people who shoot everything in sight. Now I like being thought of as different than other states and a little on the "rebel" side if you will, but it's purely image. Now of course Texans are the greatest people around, but we are the friendliest too, not just murderers and people who execute criminals. But I also have to say that just reading that liberal view got me ticked off. I dont know, just can't stand that kinda stuff.
Btw, mil1ion, nice to see you visiting the Texas board!

Well, It's not entirely true, because you forgot to add that we were walking back from our Oilwell when we blasted him !!!
But seriously, I live on the coast, no farm or horses, and just about everyone I know carries a Concealed Handgun here (licensed of course)..... so yeah he would probably get blasted for real

Totaly not true! Because everybody knows that Glock .40 mags hold 10 rnds and one in the chamber, so there would have been 11 "BANGS" for each mag.
Besides, we enjoy a good hanging better than a shooting.
'Some body get a rope'
Ya know, it's still legal here to hang a person for stealing livestock!!

I could start a debate over this one but I won't. I have never seen that situation but then, I live in a small town. I took Teakwondo for a while and I carry a knife and have learned how to throw it fairly well so in the same respect, I wouldn't just let the jerk come after me but becuz of my personal experiences, I wouldn't have a gun. If someone else pulled a gun and shot the jerk, then so be it and I wouldn't argue a second over it. I think most people would show some restraint and not shoot the jerk into a pulp but remember, threatening a family is like opening up the animal in anyone and when that adrenaline and animal instinct takes over, there's no tellin' what'll happen.
