Check engine light on right turns?

Hi all. New to the forum. I have a 2002 F350 4x4 Crew Cab with a complete Banks Big Hoss system on it. I developed an issue with it where I couldn't drive it because it kept 'coding' to a check engine light and running like it was in limp home mode or something. Then I couldn't even start it. So I took it to Ford and they said they read the code on it (which they couldn't have cause my ODB2 port is non functioning - I have a code reader that won't connect to my truck but connects fine to my buddy's 2001 F350). They said it was the code for the injector/glow plug harnesses and they wanted 1k to change them. So I bought the parts and changed them myself and it started working fine for 2 weeks with no coding.

But alas, now it has started to do the same thing all over again. It doesn't happen on left hand turns or while driving straight. It only happens on right hand turns of 45 degrees or greater at 7mph or over. If I roll through turns at less than 7mph it seems okay, otherwise it will turn that engine light on and act like its running on 2 cylinders. Where do I start troubleshooting something like this? I would take it to a shop but I just bought a house and barely have enough money for whatever parts I end up needing to get.

Thanks,
Matt

pull the cover off your steering column. Look for a wire that has rubbed bare and grounds out against the column. My dad's F-250 did something similar, and that was the culprit. Other than that, i have no guesses

checked

well i checked and I can find no wires around the steering column that appear to be rubbed through or even near where they might cause an issue on a right turn. Also, nothing by the shock tower or the harnesses over the valve covers. Everything seems fine on those fronts...

Any other ideas?

if your obdii port doesnt work, figure out why, then read the codes yourself. ask the dealer how they pulled the codes

Where would I start on that? I checked the fuses and there are none blown. I traced the wires and saw nothing wrong up into the harness. I tried taking the banks chip out and it didn't help either.

How would I troubleshoot not being able to use my ODBII port?

So I changed my oil tonight because it was overdue anyway and now the problem is WORSE! Not only does it do it on right turns still, but even just putting it in gear and starting to roll it, it just either turns on the engine light or outright dies now.

Any ideas?

Check your cigarette lighter fuse. If it is blown the OBD-II port will not have power.

Check your wiring harness in the engine compartment, where it is close to the steering column shaft. You may have some rubbing there.

Thanks Redford. As I had stated, I have checked all the fuses and none are still blown. They are all good. I also cannot find any wires/harnesses anywhere near the steering column inside the cabin or outside in the engine compartment that might cause that.

Any other ideas?

Could this be related to my vehicle speed sensor? I see numerous posts on google with similar though not exactly the same symptoms and they are related to the VSS. Could that be the case with mine maybe? If its not even close to related I don't want to drop money on a new one, just curious of any thoughts...
