spark plug wires

i have a 1986 f-150 supercab with a 302 fuel injected, 2 wheel drive, auto. is there a way to check spark plug wires to see if there good? can you use a voltmeter? i dont want to buy a new set if i dont have to? thanks for any ideas.

You can ohm them out with a voltmeter, just make sure that you take into account the length of each wire. They should all be relatively close.

Check with an ohmmeter. There should be appx. 5000 ohms of resistance per foot of wire. If it is much more, replace it.

My Bad. My voltmeter or rather my multimeter has an ohm setting.

BAd wires usually cause a missfire under load, if its not missing they're probably ok. Spraying them with a little water to see if it starts missing is a good check too
