Loose Locking Hub

I just got a 1992 F-250 XLT through CraigsList. I was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V and I hated the thing. I wanted a truck, something big and loud, that I could pull anything with. Haha.
Anyway, my truck has about 183,000 miles on it. It is the 351w with the 5 speed manual w/ granny 1st.
I've only had it for 5 days and I can already say I love the thing. I have named it "Large Marge"
Anyway, onto what I think may be a problem.
My truck is a 4x4 with manual locking hubs. I went to put it into 4x4 while backing up with a trailer today in a sloped field and I noticed that on the passenger side the hub **** was past the locked notch. I rotated it to lock and went on parking my trailer. Then when I was done I put it back in Free but I noticed it is very easy to turn. I can just flip it with my pinky. It doesn't seem like it would stay where I put the ****. It this a problem?
The drivers side **** does move pretty easily but it will stay where it is put. How easy should there ***** move? I have a friend who has a '87 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 and it is super hard to move the ***** between free and locked.
I just wanna make sure nothing is broken in there, I want this truck to last until at least 300,000 miles which means I am gonna need to take pretty good care of it.
As far as how easy these hubs are to turn, they shouldn't be hard to turn, but I don't know about being loose enough to turn with your pinky. And yes, they "click" into place when they're locked, but in free, they just sit there at the end of the turn.
