Hey all, I have a 4 speed toploader here that I need to remove the forks and shift rails. Can this be done from the top of the tranny without removing it from the engine? Any help would be appreciated.
The OD unit is going to be slightly different inside as the shifting is reversed for 3-4 iirc.
There were top shift models of the OD, in addition to the turret shift and side shift.
Jeep boxes t-176 and the ford TOD aluminum unit. And yes, I'm concerned about weather the shift pattern will be the same... the hotrod folks have been doing this on the three speeds behind flatheads using a jeep t150 shift tower. I found a few articles on the swap I'm attempting also, but nothing 100% on the OD unit.
The TOD has an intermediate lever mounted on the left front of the case that reverses the direction of the 3-4 shift between the handle and the shift fork. I can try to borrow a camera and get you a few pictures if you think it would help.
