Toploader clone

New to the forum so Hi from Florida everybody!
I have a '76 F-100 custom, 360, 5.9L 3 speed floor shift. I recently figured out that I have the toploader 3 speed clone, the infamous "Orion" stamped transmission. So I have 2 questions, is this transmission even worth trying to rebuild or would I be better off just finding a true toploader from the boneyard and rebuilding it? and secondly, where can I find the info as far as what spline this transmission is so that I can find a true toploader with the right spline shafts? Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

The stamps on the trans are as follows if it helps,
Case casting: "Orion" C-2603000
Case tag: RAB-J2
Tailhouse casting: RF-C5AR-7A040-B

Check David Kee Transmissions, He has the charts and tells about the Orion but it sounds like it was a 4 speed od.

Rebuild parts are tough to get cheaply for it. Very hard to find in a yard. The input shaft should be 10 spline 1-1/16". If damaged/worn you would be better off with am upgrade to a more durable 4 speed (t-18,t-19, np435. Or if stock engine, you could use an SROD trans for overdive. Dimensionally, the SROD trans is closest to your current one, but will handle less torque than the above transmissions. The above units all have the same input shaft style and will bolt to your bell.
