so can any of you verify wether a cold air intake is really gonna make that big of diff ? i have been playing with my 95 bird { 4.6 lx } , and i cant really see the advantag of hanging the filter in the fenderwell over my stock filter box with a good filter in it . it , the filter is sheilded from the engine bay in it . now that restrictive pos violin case air intake after the maf .... well thats only common sense .............. but do any of you know of any source that has a direct replacement tube or a tube from another car that will replace the violin case on it ??? i made a couple of attempts at a homemade unit but they ended up in the trash after use for awhile . one being appearance . not hung up on it being showy , just dont want it too look like crap . been researching and so far nothing for the 94 / 95 birds .

On those F1AE heads, there's not much to gain anywhere ahead of the intake ports. Those heads are absolutely terrible, and even that "violin case" isn't really a restriction no matter what the Tccoa youngsters tell you.The MAF and airbox on Tbirds is "ok",it's not great, but it's OK.
Here's a pic of comparison between the F1AE and the F5AE non-PI heads. This is the same port on both cylinder heads, from the same angle. '91-'95 F1AE heads on the left, '96-'00 F5AE on the right.

i've actually got that printed off johnny and the info from that thread ! i sold the 97 and 98 4.6's and the 4 valve i had , and i know some won't understand , to help pay for the 52 i bought . so now were back to looking for cheap improvements , but hopefully better than my home -cobbled attempts , to pick up a little power . i'm afraid the bird has gone way back to the back 40 on the priority list as the two oldies are up front and i intend to finish the 53 this time before starting another !! so the violin case isn't that horrible then it can stay and the box and maf . no replacing them again .just curious about stated power gains and if it's worth it or not although i know my early 4.6 will pretty much choke off any gains .you and a couple others i pay close attention too over there , but for the most part just search and stir occassionally ........thinking about " challenging" the 5.4 4 valve to a race with my 53 so he can say he beat up on someone if he gets it running !!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'll run into a set of 96 up npi heads again cheap ........... pastience is a virtue .... and i don't have it !!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I put a Volant CAI on my '06 F 150 54L 3V and the only reaal difference you can nnotice is the sound nd a gain of about .2 - .4 MPG. The sound is awsome but II tink that's what gets the real attention off the kids today. I feel like I wasted $300 bucks as far as performance goes, but the advantage is I don't have to change out a $25.00 evry couple of months and like I said, it sounds awesome.
grant man thanx for the info . it's what i have experienced in the past with cai's on other late models i bought and drove for beaters . lots of listen i'm powerful noise , but no real noticeable gains . kinda what has been the norm . was hoping it would help , but as johnny pointed out i got early heads so prolly not gonna help anyway . but if i could've picked up even 2 horse for lil' outlay i would've done it . i'll go back to my violin case . been making some alterations too it ..............................
