Tickety Tickety

Took the motor box off the van I just bought and there is a constant ticking coming from the back of the engine. It almost sounds like a lifter but the interior lighting flickers just faintly at the same frequency as the noise. Could one of my injectors be doing something weird? 1994 5.8 E150 188k.

BTW I removed the PCV valve to rule that out. The noise is coming from that approximate location.

Any chance this could be coming from the transmission?

Probably a worn or clogged lifter. Go to the store and buy a can of Rislone and pour it in the engine, and then drive it for about 2 weeks. If it's a sticky clogged lifter, it will usually make it go away.

I just found a TSB about warped exhaust manifolds. Prolly an exhaust leak.
