Door ajar light is on all the time. How do I check which of the eight switches are bad. I've tried the wd spray trick before and it worked but now it won't respond to that treatment and is on all the time. Overhead light goes out after a few minutes of driving. Thanks for your help. JOHN
I posted on another thread regarding the same problem. After replacing all the door ajar switches and the door ajar light was still on, I found that the wiring harness in the rear passenger side door was chafing against a sharp ridge inside the door and exposed the bare copper in one of the wires. I wrapped it up with electrical tape and the problem was solved. Also put electrical tape on the sharp part that was rubbing against the harness. I'd check the rear doors first since the harness is tucked in the same way. I don't remember if the front doors had the chafing problem as I didn't check them. Good luck.
If you pull the door panels , disconnect and jump each connector with a paper clip one at a time, the light will go out when you find the bad one. All the switch does is make or break a connection to ground.
This is awesome. I am glad you posted and thanks to all of you who replied with solutions as I am having the same problems and the WD40 trick isn't working. I'll do some digging and see what I find.
I'm having the same isues.
Were is the switch in the rear gate.
I had the rear gate apart last week doing the lock switch repair and only saw one connector for the lock acuator.
I've had my X since it was new. I got it 2002. I had a 2000 model I bought new before that. I had a 1997 F150 with the same problem. I've been dealing with this a long time. I finally decided to make a bypass and give myself options for when it happens.
I removed the instrument panel and spliced a wire into the Black / Light blue wire. This wire is located on the connector furthest toward the passenger side. It is the only wire of this color anywhere on the instrument panel. I ran that wire through a toggle switch that I mounted in the dash just to the right of the headlight switch.
Now I control the interior and running board lights with the flip of a switch.
If a door jamb switch malfunctions, I just turn off the lights manually.
If I want to leave the doors open when I'm camping or for any reason, I just flip the switch.
If the door ajar switches are working correctly I just leave the switch in the on position.
If they are malfunctioning, I just turn on the switch as I am entering the X and then turn it off when I'm ready to roll.
The reading lights and the cargo light in the back still operate normally regardless of this switch position.
I think my rear hatch is causing me this same issue currently. I had it open for about 7 hours on Saturday (pulling stumps ) and following that it was showing the door ajar light and had the interior lights on. It was getting late so I just pulled the fuse to kill the lights until I get a chance to try the WD-40 trick, that is if it ever stops raining, if not I'll have to give up on the Ex and build an ark.
