Hinge Pin removal?
The problem is that I don't want to hurt the paint, I don't care about the paint on the hinge.. I can always repaint that if it is harmed... it is the door and cowl paint I am worried about.
Also, being young and not making a pile of money, I am too cheap to buy a new pin remover off the net, unless someone has one they would want to sell. Otherwise any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
get some carbord and tape it on the door / cowling... then drive the pin out from the bottom up.... if it still will not budge...
they sent new pins with the mirror?
if they did, or if you have new pinsgrind the head off the old pin, flush with the hinge, use a center punch, and then drill it out. use the same size bit as your new pins.
the cardboard will protect the paint from chips and stray debrie.
my own observation, the new pins are a little bigger than the orginals, and require a slightly larger hole.
Robert
1. grind the heads off the pins
2. center punch the pin
3. then find a drill bit the same size, or just a touch smaller than the pin diameter and drill about 1/4 into the pin.
4. I then took a punch that fit into the hole I drilled and dug out my 3 lb hand sledge hammer and gave it a few good wacks and out the pins came
This method was NOT paint friendly however, but I wasn't worried about harming mine at this point.
Hope this is of some help.
Jon
