replacing frame rail fuel lines?

I need to replace me rear tank lines the return line and the one that goes to the engine, I'm only going to replace them up to the FSV on the frame rail, now I can remember when I put the piece of rubber hose on the sending unit to replace the shower head, but I think I forgot to clamp it, because my fuel tank runs out with a quarter left in the tank, so when I drop the primary fuel tank I would like to replace these lines since I'll have access to them, now if anybody can tell me if there are any special tools I need and where I can find these lines don't wanna pay at dealer out my a$$

They have kits at places like Autozone (etc...) They may work for what you need, look in the help section.

its all low pressure, theres no pressure until you get from the fuel pump to the fuel filter. then thats still like 7psi

hmm so since this is extremely low pressure than what I'm used too, whats your opinion on using a fuel line that is not steel or stainless steel? such as a rubber type fuel line of course it would only be routed from the rear to the fsv to remind everyone again

Mine was either installed originally or replaced prior to my ownership w/ a hdpe type of plastic line along the rail. Mine is still steel once it pops off the rail. I would imagine you want steel where it runs up along the block for heat reasons, and below the oil pan to the rail for protection reasons.

My 2¢

yes I definately understand that but I'm just replacing it to the fsv on the frame rail, heres another question would it be any different if I went to homedepot and cut some 3/8" and 5/16" hose (correct me if wrong on fuel line sizes please) that would work right? and then I could just hose clamp it lol

I think you'll be fine as long the hose can put up with the diesel. HDPE does. Many of your rubber hoses should also, but I'd want to be sure if'n it were my truck.

Remember it's under vacuum ... rubber hose would not be the best choice for the distance.

Interesting, The supply on my '86 is plastic (or whatever) from tanks to FSV, FSV to the rear spring hangar for the front end and blends (no fittings) into steel. The return is all plastic.
