the cummins. Not the fact it's a I6, cause I like the under powered nissan that came in the international scouts. My issue was all these guys in the FORD forum saying ditch the idi for a cummins. If everybody and their brother didn't do the cummins swap it would be cool. It's lame and been over done imo. The dt466 is quickly on it's way to being the same in my book.

ya, the 650+, but still cheezy and lame. Like putting a 350 in a vega, or in a ford. Damn, it's like nobody can have original ideas anymore. And don't mean t be angry, haven't seen the girlfriend in 2 weeks. Was outta town so I missed my "regular" with the part time gf.

You don't want the 6.6 engine.

Brazilian, not great on fuel, not great on power, not great for getting parts.

There was also an 8.2 if I remember right, it was even worse.

Lame and overdone... Hmmm... How many active members are there on this forum? I can remember two of them with Cummins powered Fords. Might be roughly the same ratio in the PSD forums. I'd say they are more popular in the '03 and newer trucks, thanks to the reliability of the 6.0. How many turbo'd IDI's are there? Talk about overdone

There's a good reason for the gaining popularity of the Cummins swap into damn near everything you could imagine. They work, and work well. And if you're looking for reliability and performance, there's little reason to look further.

The IDI is a decent, reliable engine and is powerful enough for most needs. But, if you're looking for performance capable of running reliably with the late model diesel pickups, you're going not going to get there with an IDI. But it can easily, and cheaply, be done with a 12V or CR Cummins.

I'm happy with my IDI for what it is. But I'm realistic about what it is capable of, or not capable of.

The 350 is a good motor.

In this:

That's a Ramjet 350 with the MPFI 3 system. I installed the MPFI 4 system a couple of years ago. Those pics are directly after the build in New Hampshire. Now I'd like to put a Cummins in it... a 4bt. LOL.

I've never heard of the Ford 6.6L. It seems to be a big motor ~40" long. Will that fit in our trucks?

i know it may be hard for you to wrap your mind around it, but not all ford owners are members of this forum buddy..... so, to say that only 2 members have the cummins swap and nobody else is dumb. you cant open a diesel mag anymore without seeing half a dozen cummins swap trucks in there. its lame, boring and been over done.
and if you are trying to compare a engine swap to a turbo addition, also retarded. the turbo is a factory option, maybe in a later model but a factory option all the same. you might as well compare a engine swap to power mirrors, or a cd player being installed in a early model car/truck.

my issue is not with the cummins engine, good engine for the dodge, good engine for small body trucks like the freightliners and such. my issue is someone asked a question like "how can i get more power out of my engine" and half a dozen knuckle heads say "step one, pull idi, step two, install cummins" thats just dumb. if someone asks, "what engine would you suggest swapping into my truck?" sure, cummins whatever. but if someone is asking about performance mods, or doing work on their engine and all these sheep BBBBAAAAAHHHHH can spew from their mouth is cummins is LAME.

i too am realistic of what my engine is capable of, im not asking for 1200 hp and 2300 ft lbs of tq, im asking what should i do to my 6.9 idi to get the best performance out of it and im pummeled with "put in a cummins".
