Ok on a 75 ford f-150 w a 400m should the sump of the pan be towards the rear of the block or the front? The 400 in my truck right now has a custom set of motor mount and the sump on the pan is in the front. My Brother inlaw and father did this swap in some 20 years ago and Im getting ready to put another 400 in it and just want to make things right. Something tells me I should have a rear sump pan . The lower pereches are home made and work but Id like to put the stock perches back in .
Thanks Tinaheels Mines a 2wd and Im trying to figure out in my head why my brother in law at the time took the 302 perches off and made new ones to run the 400 because If im understanding right the 302 and 400 run the same perch. Weird. Well I guess I wont fix whats not broke its work for a long time. Id still like to find the proper set of perches
I rebuilt a 460 and want to install a bigger oil pan to help keep the oil properly flowing to the engine, but i've been told by many individuals in order to put a bigger oil pan i will need to redo the whole front end.
You would want a T pan, not a longer pan. I don't recall Ford ever doing much different to the SCJ 429's back in the day. Trucks always used to take 6 quarts of oil on a change. SCJ cars had the 2-entry port oil pumps and matching pick up. Maybe trucks do too.
