SBF experts-fuel pump eccentric question

I bought a re-manufactured shortblock that has what looks like 1/4 of a fuel pump eccentric bolted to the front of the cam sprocket. Instead of it being a full 360 degrees of contact surface for a pump arm, it's only about 90 degrees. I thought it was an oil slinger, but research indicates it's where the eccentric should be. I'd leave it on, but it contacts the timing cover and I can't mount the cover with it on. Does anybody have any idea if it needs to be on there? I'm getting ready to take it off and wish to know if anybody knows what it's doing on there? Thanks!

I'll admit, I've never seen anything that matches that description, and can't imagine how it would work. Especially if it's so large (extending forward) that you can't even finish assembling the engine. My gut says take it off and replace it with a correct eccentric for your application. It may be just some kind of spacer for crating and transportation. Like Sam said, a photo would be helpful.

Can you tell us more about the engine? ie; actual size, year, etc., besides just sbf?

The motor is a "roller" motor in that it has a cam for roller lifters. It's the one on page 3 for $495.00 with the Hyper pistons. Their picture doesn't show this eccentric.
