Flash updated needed on 05?

Is there much benefit to getting my computer updated? I've heard that most of the upgrades were done in 04 so is it worth the $200 my dealer wants? They kind of looked at me funny when I asked about getting it done without anything 'wrong' with truck so I tend think it may just be a waste of time & $$$.
Truck runs great but I have heard about a safety issue with coolant temperture vs oil temp triggering a warning on the lastest flash.
Any thoughts would be help!

It is a personal judgement call, but I think I will have mine done. The new diagnostics in an '05-'07 seem to be worth the cost and risk. Plus you will get the improved injector maintenance.

Downside is, you cannot go back once it is done. For that reason I have been hanging back and seeing how it works for others. Have seen almost zero complaints so far.

I haven't seen much other than the safety 'check engine' on the coolant tempt.
The owner of the dealership told me to save my money......anyone else got an opinion on this?
Thanks much

Is that the same one who told you to use 10W/30 oil year round?

Bwahahahahahahahaha Good one Bill.

Ben---there are lots of updates since 04, but IMHO if you aren't having any issues then I would NOT have it flashed. I would, however, search for another dealership to use for service as yours doesn't sound too "updated". I might take that 200 and add enough to it to get an edge insight so you can really tell what the temp. differences are between your ECT and EOT. Not to mention that you would have an excellent device to monitor the rest of your truck.

I had it done last Friday and have zero complaints from it so far. It turbo sweep that it initiates at idol takes a little getting use to but other that that it seems to be a behind the scenes update. Personaly if a small updated that has no issues and keeps a closer eye on things is out there then I'm all in.

imo $200 for a reflash with no diag is overcharging. should be an hours labor.

I live in a smaller town but we have tons of Ford Trucks. This dealer has 3 diesel techs & the service mng is a diesel guy.
As this is a long term Ford Dealer they must have a ton to learn on so I trust the actual Techs. Service advisors usually just know how to write up work orders.

The price on the flash seems crazy but up here they charge $100 an hour plus shop supplies etc. etc.
Don't break down in Canada as we seem to charge a ton more up here.
I haven't heard anything overly compelling to 'flash' yet so I'll sit tight until I learn more.
Thanks all!

Two advantages on the 05 is that the new flash will give you a wrench light if your ect/eot temps go out of range for a given amount of time and if you had the last inductive flash done, the new flash is supposed to be easier on your FICM.

LOL-- me and cheezit have had our differences about this before, but I'm with him on this for sure. It takes a lot less time to reflash an 05,6,7 than it does an 03/4 simply because of processer speed. IIRC you can reflash a later model with an SCT in less than a minute vs. 6 or 7 for an 03/4. Not totally sure on that but it's close.

Sammy77---I'm not sure there are any risks, only benefits, especially if you've had your truck flashed since summer 07.

I think there is a newer flash for mine, last update was done in 9/07. But I have always seen posts like "I refuse to update" or "I'm afraid to update" and I've always wondered why? I'm lucky update wouldn't cost me a dime, just worried after seeing these posts. Sorry about the hijack...
