I will be taking my 05 F-250 6.0 back to the shop in the morning, but in the meantime was hoping for some input. I originally brought it in for repair due to white smoke, difficulty starting, and no power from stops. After replacing the fuel filters, I then cleaned the EGR valve without success. Took it to the shop and had hpop, oil cooler, egr cooler, and o-rings replaced. Took it home last night and it ran smooth. In the middle of the day today, parked the car took care of some business and returned to the car and it will not start. It is showing codes P0401, and P2284. Any thoughts are appreciated.
p2284 is a little bit on the rare side for codes.
p2284 Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. dont mistake it for the ICP it is not.
the p2284 can possible cause the p0401. or you may have two issues.
they may have cut the o-ring on the stc fitting.... I have done it a few times. it happens.
I dont think that is going to be the case though.
P2284 is a circuit fault. the few times I have seen it come up it has been fixed with a new connector for the ipr valve. so depending on whats going on you may need an ipr valve and or a connector.
look at it this way. the IPR is a metered oil leak that controlls the pressure in the high side system.
so a 100% cycled ipr would be max pump pressure at a given rpm.
a 0% cycled ipr is 100% of oil being returned to the crankcase.
the ICP just reads and inputs to the pcm what the ipr has managed to do to itself.
the volume of oil is controlled by engine rpm.
OK--that's what I thought and I thought from the code that maybe the IPR was letting all the oil return to the crankcase, but I see that it's a circuit code. Thanks for the explanation.
Final result is HPOP replacement failure. I guess pressure is supposed to run at around 450 and was only at 150 or so. Ford replaced the replacement under warranty. Thanks again for the input.
